Yet, there are still questions to consider and ponder.

Does it remove too much friction from the creative process?

Is there a risk that our art will all look the same?

Does the platform perpetuate biases?

I decided to look at possible biases here.

To set the stage, I have purchased a Basic $10 per month subscription. The application uses Discord as the interface. I can create images with the /imagine prompt.

You can add simple or complex terms to the prompt.

For example, here is what I get from this prompt: /imagine giant cartoon taco floating over city at dusk

With that prompt, it generates four images as a starting point. Every prompt generates four images to start with.

The images are weird and need some modification. Users can modify specific images. Each image corresponds to a number that can be “upscaled” or revised. I’ll refer to the images based on this order.

In image #1, the taco is overflowing with refried beans. In #2, we see a strange clamshell taco. Number 4 inserted the city into the taco. Number 3 is closest to what I envisioned.

But my focus here is to look at biases.

What kind of biases are baked into this platform?

I decided to run a few simple tests by typing in a single word and looking at the results.
