Russia calling for peace talks in effort to prepare for second phase of war

The geopolitical adventure started by Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022 cost Russia dearly — manpower and equipment losses of its army is unprecedented as it clearly exceed aggregate statistics throughout all wars and conflicts fought by the USSR and the Russian Federation after 1945. The Kremlin needs a tactical pause so they calls for negotiations — on June 4, Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov expressed the Kremlin’s readiness to talk truce. Russia is trying to deceive the Western community by promoting pseudo-pacifist narratives, meanwhile preparing for the second stage of the war with Ukraine. Such preparation is carried out both in the military sphere (ongoing mobilization, procurement and own production of weapons), as well as in the political spectrum: the coalition of “like-minded nations” (Iran, North Korea, and Syria) are asked to support Russia in its confrontation with the West. Therefore, any negotiations with the Kremlin are not just meaningless — they are dangerous as they would enable Russia to prepare for a much larger and bloodier war

Russian occupying troops are seen committing massive war crimes on the territory of Ukraine, which are typical of Russians in all wars they take part in. Putin is trying to restore the practice of territorial expansion, and had the Armed Forces of Ukraine not stopped the Russian army on approach to Kyiv in March 2022, the world would have witnessed the greatest tragedy of an entire nation in Europe since 1945. The Ukrainian army went for a resolute counteroffensive and liberated a number of territories occupied by the Russians after February 2022, but currently part of the Ukrainian territories within the country’s internationally recognized borders remain under Russian occupation. Until they are liberated, no country in Europe can feel safe because Putin violated the fundamental principles of the integrity of the borders of a sovereign nation.

The Russian army is critically weakened, and that is why there are numerous calls for negotiations coming from the Kremlin, while Russia lobbyists abroad offer evidence in favor of freezing hostilities and disengagement, which in reality will have extremely harmful consequences. Russia will restore its arms stocks, thoroughly train its newly-mobilized forces (the process that is going extremely slow due to the lack of the required capabilities), and unleash the second stage of its war. This is the key goal pursued by Vladimir Putin, who seeks to destroy, or at least weaken and make dependent not only Ukraine, but also Europe. The only way to prevent this from happening is to supply weapons to Ukraine’s forces. Russia must not just be defeated — it must suffer a crushing blow that will put an end to its aggressive appetites
