Is Gone Girl a Divisive Movie?

That moment arrived in 2020.

Like many others, I can’t determine if this movie is good or not. I didn’t find any of the characters particularly appealing. I thought they were all pretty terrible, but then again, people aren’t always pleasant in real life.

We have Amy, the renegade psychopath who responded to her husband‘s infidelity with the ultimate dose of revenge, by framing him for her murder. That’s some next-level tragedy, especially if you were on the receiving end of such horrors.

By contrast, we have Nick, who is a jerk and a cheater. He’s an even greater jerk in the book, where he often thought about things that very much demeaned women. Though both characters are vile, both relied on the viewer’s or reader’s sympathy to justify their motives, while also lying and manipulating to one another, just to survive for another day,

Between the two, I feel that Amy is worse. Rather than dump her husband as a normal human would, she was willing to go to great lengths of stage a murder on herself… and killed someone by the end of it.

Much like a serial killer with their trusty knife, she found a way to weaponize her entire body. She got men to do the things that she wanted, with no consequence, and she got away with it, too. She is the very definition of a spouse’s worst nightmare.
