How To Discover Yourself Through Reading And Writing

Self Discovery

A beacon of light in the fog of life

As a Senior Editor and writer for all Illumination publications I trawl through literally thousands of articles, stories and poems almost every single day. Sometimes I start at the bottom of the list of submissions and often I just scroll through them to see what catches my eye. When this happens, it is the headline that has got my attention and drawn me in to explore a little more. Usually I am rewarded with a lovely read which holds my interest from beginning to end. Even better, the piece in question gives me something to think about, and better still, more than a little inspiration. Here I have selected three pieces from three different writers who, over the last couple of days, have given me all of the above plus a whole lot of joy.

Claire Kelly is a relatively new fellow editor who has impressed me with her interest in other writers, including me. Claire (and Josh Balerite Acol below) are always amongst the first to congratulate me when one of my own articles gets curated. I really appreciate that as it helps to inspire me to go on to the next piece.

I just love the headline on this first piece. Claire explains how something wretched, a fall on the floor, lead to her falling in love with writing. Quite often, if not always, through pain we find beauty. And what Claire found was the beauty of writing. Her love for the activity shines like a beacon of light.

The next piece by Claire was a breath of fresh air as I read through it this morning. Claire managed to make me feel like I was right next to her on her walk out and about. And that is one of the secrets of great writers, they take you with them on their journey. As a reader you could not ask for more.
