A Lesson from Formula 1 on Organizing Your Life and Time

See where you’re losing and gaining time

Formula 1 is a very high-profile and popular sport.

It goes without saying that this sport has many adoring fans from all over the world. It is after all the highest class of international auto racing, which only consists of twenty drivers, from ten teams.

Michael Schumacher, a seven-time World Champion is the reason I started watching and following this sport closely.

At first, I’d keep my eyes peeled out — looking for the red Ferrari car, which usually led the races from the start. It was such a joy to see Schumacher stand on top of the podium after a hard-fought race with other drivers.

He was a winner and it was nice to see him win.

Over the years, I followed the sport as different individuals made their mark on the scene.

Now, you might think that there isn’t much to Formula 1 apart from high-speed cars chasing each other for over 50 laps, so they can stand on the podium and lift the trophy.

But there are many aspects of the sport, including the drivers and their teams that we can learn. Here is an important lesson that Formula 1 has taught me over the years:

There are multiple races held over the season, which are called the Grand Prix. And these Grand Prix take place on purpose-built race tracks and some even on closed-city streets.

While all the circuits are specially constructed for competition, they each differ and are unique to one another. What’s more, each circuit is broken down into three sectors.

Let’s have a look at why that is:

Each lap is broken down into three sections — Sector 1, Sector 2, and Sector 3. This helps the teams to see where they are losing and gaining time.

In the Qualifying sessions, drivers will need to post the fastest lap timing to get pole position — which is the position at the front at the start of the race. The grid order on race day is set by the best timing.
