Believe

What you want is possible. Not just the practical, but your deep-down dreams are possible. (Believe me, this is not hollow cliché. This is phosphorescent fact.) Believe in your value. Believe that…

Photo-A-Day-Challenge

looking for life in the midst of chaos

This was a stranger-than-strange week. As I’m sure you know, the United States Capitol was attacked, overrun, and trashed by Trump supporters while Congress was in session certifying the Electoral College votes and officially declaring Joe Biden as the President-Elect. The insurrection was promoted and encouraged by Trump, his son, his son’s girlfriend, Trump’s attorney Rudy Guiliani, and some members of Congress, as well as many other traitors.

I can’t begin to describe the horror, shame, and anger I felt as I watched the Capitol overtaken by Trump thugs. The images were/are horrific.

After Wednesday, I didn’t want to take photos or do anything normal because my country was far from normal, we Americans are far from normal, and our president is teetering on the brink of insanity.

But, I did. I chose normalcy and routine over the chaos and destruction. I took more walks with my camera — phone and Canon — and took more photos of my home sanctuary. After the deaths at the Capitol on Wednesday and knowing there could have been many more, I chose to look for life.

And, I found it. Inside and out.

I am offering more photos than one for each day as I typically do. I’ll also give more detail than usual because I need my mind to focus on minutiae.

First, I want to mention the lead photo. I saw a rotting toadstool/mushroom on the ground and thought its blue-green rim was strikingly unusual. As I bent low to get the shot, I saw something barely moving in the decomposed center. It was a tiny snail having his dinner. This is one of my all-time favorite photos.

This is our cross-eyed cat, Sébastien. He is the most curious cat I’ve ever known. If I am in the back yard, he’s on the porch watching my every move. If Ben goes to the kitchen, Sébastien follows. When you come inside, he’s waiting at any door you open. During the night, he opens doors and cabinets to make sure all is okay within. His peripheral sight may be limited, but he misses nothing…
