There are heels in my mind
I’m afraid to turn the corner of

Images that would blind me worse
Than sun’s white hot glare

If I stopped running to kiss panic
And set my sights inside to burn

These departed bridges, but I am
Coated in their ashes, still gone

With those words I heard and worse
Lining up to prickle my spine

Curses wrap me in white-knuckled
Tenacity for one more beatdown

I grasp a shaky lantern with resolve
I’d like to own, cut out a new

Likeness to slip into, who’ll notice?
These mismatched facets

Show where I’ll shine on
