Changes Coming to The Dad Hammer

Hey Everyone!

I wanted to introduce myself (more info below). My name is Adam Hillis, and I am going to be stepping in for Jack.

Quick backstory…

He and I met years ago at our church in Portland, OR. Then a few months later he moved to Eastern Washington and I moved to Southern Oregon. We’ve stayed in touch via email, social media, and Medium.

If you didn’t know, Jack started The Dad Hammer a few years ago as a place to post stories and articles about being a dad, and how we build the lives of our kids. He added me as an editor, but I really haven’t done much.

Until now. :-)

After Jack posted his “Help Wanted” piece and his article about changing his focus a couple weeks ago, I reached out. I’ve had it in my heart to start a publication for dads, but one with a slightly different focus. This seemed like a great opportunity to keep a publication I love going (this one!), while also adjusting the focus to what’s been on my heart.

My wife, Lisa, and I have been married since 2007. We have two boys and a girl (Asher-8, Abel-6, and Azilee-3). Like many (most?) marriages, ours has had its rocky spots. Sometimes it was just gravel, and other times a boulder broke off the side of the cliff and landed on us. But we’ve stayed committed to each other and to staying married.

A good friend of mine had a saying that has stuck with me for years:

I’ve seen men that are incredible fathers, but aren’t very good husbands. However, I’ve never seen a really great husband that sucks at being a father. It’s as if when we focus on our marriage relationship first, the rest falls into place.

This is the general idea of where I see the publication moving. More about the entirety of our role as family men, not just dads raising kids. i.e. We are husbands, dads, employees (financial providers), in-laws, etc.

More details will be coming soon, but I wanted to give all of you a bit of a heads-up before you saw anything change.

Thank you so much for supporting The Dad Hammer as both readers and writers. I’m excited for what’s ahead!

-Adam
